Edit Workshop Two- Fairly Legal and The Mission

Today we went through majority of the keyboard tools in order to make editing quicker and more detailed. We used unedited clips from a scene of 'Fairly Legal' and also 'The Mission' and used Premiere Pro to edit them together. There were different shots so the first thing that I did was split them into two folders; one for the male character and one for the female character. I placed the master shot for the whole sequence in the timeline and then worked out where I wanted to place the remaining clips. The most important thing to get right first was the audio linking up and the edits for it being being seamless, for example when the frame changed from a wide two shot to a medium single shot the eye levels have to be exactly the same, this was definitely something that I found challenging and it took a long time to get it right; so that the edit is not noticed.

The process was a lot more challenging than I anticipated as it was so important to have clean cuts and something that really helped was using the rolling edit tool and the ripple edit tool.  By double clicking on the cuts between edits it allowed me to compare the end of the previous frame and the start of the next frame and this is something I know that I will use a lot to be able to get crystal clear edits. Something that I found really challenging was being able to match up the audio, so the ripple edit tool and the rolling edit tool were very helpful as I can edit frame by frame in great detail. I then edit a few shots together, with the audio and video files matching, then Ferg placed some more shots in my sequence that were out of time. It was a challenge to try and edit them in seamlessly and I needed help but the more that I did it the quicker that I got and the more accurate and flawless my cuts were becoming.

Here is a section of fairly legal that I edited together:
