Reviewing Workshop Films
On November 8th we reviewed four of our workshop films with Simon; The Chair, Crossing the Line, 180 Degree Rule and Single frame emotions. Simon gave us feedback on each of our videos and my feedback was:
The Chair:
-Have the music fit with the shot of Syd walking in frame, it will make the film more fluid and help the tension to build.
-Slightly out of focus when she moves, some of the shots start in focus and then they become soft as Syd moves in the frame, to improve this I will practice focussing whilst filming on our upcoming location shoot at Dungeness.
Crossing the Line:
-Broke the 180 degree rule, it was in a close up so was not too obvious but still is quite disorientating to the audience, however I created this film before the 180 degree workshop so now I know not to do this.
-Gain is high, there are some shots that appear grainy in the edit so I need to make sure the gain is off unless it is necessary.
-Make decisions with panning, don't change my mind of where to pan mid-shot.
180 Degree Rule:
-Didn't need a wide shot, I used too much coverage when it was not needed so in future I will be cautious with only using shots if they are necessary.
Storytelling with a Single Frame:
-Some shots are are slightly out of focus and a little soft however the more that I use the camera the easier it will become to have a shot fully focussed, a technique Simon told me about was to zoom in on the eyes and focus the shot and then zoom back out so I will use this in future.
